Dr. Michelle Block and her team at VCU are on a mission to define the impact of air pollution on the brain and central nervous system.  In several peer-reviewed, published reports, Block and her colleagues have demonstrated that exposure to a diverse source of urban air pollution can trigger toxic microglial responses and impact neurodegenerative disease pathways that may lead to the development of Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, or Gulf War Illness.
